Some changes are bigger than others. The members of Joseph are weathering some seismic shifts at the moment.

For more than a decade, the three Klosner sisters have built a passionate and loyal following on the strength of their beautiful harmonies and killer hooks. They’ve played late night TV, toured coast to coast several times, and played every major festival from Glastonbury to Coachella to Bonnaroo. Following the release of The Sun in 2023, the girls felt more momentum than ever—until they didn’t.

With a new album (Closer to Happy) on the way, Joseph is charting a course forward as a duo. Natalie and Megan are carrying the torch after Allison decided to step away, a decision that’s altered everything from the creative spaces they inhabit to the dynamics of their live performance. Suddenly the question had to be asked, “Are we still going to do this? And if so, how do we do it?”

Those sorts of moments are so relatable, which is why it was so heartening to talk to Joseph at this stage of their career. What follows is a meaningful conversation about the pressure of keeping something alive when its shape has changed, the grief over what’s lost when it does change, and how a bit more space has allowed them to blossom in new ways.
